DESIGN NAME: Bowl Fantasy
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cantonese Tong Sui Dessert Store
INSPIRATION: Bowl Fantasy is a project for a modern Cantonese “tong sui” store that serves sweet soup as a dessert. The soup bowl that holds Chinese dessert is the symbol of the brand and is our inspiration. We try to dematerialize the physical properties of the “bowl” by using different fabrication techniques such as splitting, folding, stacking and regrouping. These challenge us to rethink the relationship between space and its implements, and to redefine our understanding of essential spatial components.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Entering the “tong sui” store is like wandering in space where fragments of bowls are scattered. "Bowls" fly around appear in different forms and shapes; they are folded and stacked into three-dimensional screen, or they are cut and rearranged as dynamic ceiling design, or even they are sliced and regrouped into giant chandeliers. It is like being in a magical palace sparking our imagination and bringing out unlimited possibilities to this dining experience.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project is located in the University of Macau at Hengqin campus

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In order to reduce cost, to reduce construction time and reduce onsite labor, we limit 80% of our design by utilizing off-site laser cutting technology. Working closely with laser cutting manufacturer, we are able to create different forms and different folding techniques which become the highlight of the spatial design.
