RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Design of barrier-free spaces
We have made the space as wide and high as possible, considering the height of the wheelchairs needed to use them, and planning the switches to be lower. The public and private areas are both designed based on barrier-free planning, and sharp corners of the space are trimmed with curved shapes. In addition to the visual, aesthetic experience, there is intimate consideration for details of living as well. In the post-epidemic, it is our goal that the house owners with physical disabilities can relax and feel at ease even in their home spaces.
By constantly communicating for the needs, understanding present and future habits in life, we can create a longer-term living pattern in the design of spaces. We believe that empathy is the only way to create a better design. Design is not just about giving, it is about people, starting with the smallest places and making life full of smooth use of space. In the post-epidemic era, people can always feel at ease without leaving their homes.
CHALLENGE: In many design projects, the planning of barrier-free spaces is limited to toilets and some public areas, without any overall planning. That is, for people in barrier-free needs, there are still many things they cannot do independently at home and need the help from others. Through constant communication and reflection, we integrate the size of the entrance door, the position of the switch, the height of the electrical appliances and the height of the wash basin into the barrier-free space, without absurd feeling, making the occupants feel more comfortable and at ease.
