DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Amore

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
New Performing Art

INSPIRATION:
Of all the emotions, the most seductive and touching is Love. Love is my muse and is the most inspirational and greatest charm of all time. Though the focus is Amore, I also hope to elegantly unite all seven human emotions (Joy, Anger, Sorrow, Fear, Love, Hate, Affection) alongside the Five Eastern Elements (Gold, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth) to create a dramatically diverse program of Western Classical music and performing art. All in to achieve a mutual interdependence Yin-Yang balance.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
AMORE is an avant-garde production created to elevate the artistry of performing art. It is a performing, conceptual, kinetic, digital, video, and abstract art. Paul Chiang's paintings are the foundation from which 3D animation techniques catalyze the art to life. Through the combination of intense piano repertoires, multimedia technology, contemporary and abstract moving art, diverse styles are revealed to present a dramatic music-based performing art that is a banquet for the senses.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Love can be heaven and hell. Amore is a brew of my emotional rollercoaster and cultural up bringing. Music and art purify the body, mind, and soul. It also inspire, triggering the inner voice of creativity. There are connections, imitations, mutations, variations, oppositions and expansions in between the themes, developments, bridges, sections and keys. The emotional and compositional evolutions are combined, reflected and echoed in the artistic animation to enable a harmonious flow.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The documented film was edited and exhibited at Art Taipei on Oct 2019. The latest edition was revised on April 2021. The duration of the film is about one hour and twelve minutes.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Repertoire: Chopin 4 Ballades (unbounded imagination), Listz, Liebestraume (Dream of Love) No.3, Tchaikovsky, Romeo and Julie (tragic), and Chia-Hui Lu's compositions: Butterfly Orchid (devoted love) and Tango (a dance with my soul mate, my piano). Paul Chiang's selected paintings: Song Without Words, Imagination of Lotus, Silver Lake, Meditation on Eternity, Transfigure, Mtn Range of Taiwan, Luxembourg Garden, Pisilian, Saint Sulpice, Notre Dame, 100Yr Temple, Debussy Keyboard, On Wings of Song.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Live performance on a Steinway Piano at the National Taiwan Concert Hall. Animation Film projected on stage overhead. Computer Animation by Maya, After Effects. Film: DCP, 16:9, Digital

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Plato once said music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything. Music is timeless, immortal and abstract but invisible. Amore brings my colorful musical imaginations to life. We explored various mediums and styles from the romantics, surreal to contemporary. Paintings are transformed into motion pictures, intertwining and interacting in a marriage with its soul mate, music. Amore morphs into a conceptual, kinetic, digital and video art.

CHALLENGE:
Creating art is like a pregnancy and birth. It is a long arduous road, but when it bears fruit, you leave a legacy that may inspire future generations. Pairing and synching appealing animations to music and debuting in a live concert adds enormous complexities. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a digital video art blended with dramatic music is beyond words. Amore is a unique performing art that touches the heart.
