The upper levels for dwelling are used by the homeowner couple and their three children. Its interior is a combination of dark-tone hardwood and grayish black stone material.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: It is a composite house whose first floor is the homeowner’s office and whose second and third floors are living space for his family. The building itself has a front and a back facades that take in natural light. It has a neat and square layout, in which the upper levels include public areas—a living room and a dining room—and private quarters—a lounging area and bedrooms.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: On the second floor are public areas and bedrooms. In the living room, a wooden wall, a marble wall and display cabinets form an ambience of wood and stone that imparts a sense of nature. The unadorned ceiling and beige L-shape sofa add lightness to the dark-tone space. The same style continues into the dining room behind a wall, with an island bar defining the cooking area and dining section. Dark-tone wood cabinets, cupboards and hardwood dining table are complemented by titanium-plated structures and metallic-hue light fixtures that create a striking focal point.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The equanimity of the public area is achieved here by means of lines and wooden veneer. The main wall features white-sandblasted fair-faced bricks, forming stacked layers like cultured stone, thereby adding serenity to this unadorned nook for dialogue or meditation. A multi-functional house is thus turned into an elegant, laid-back space that is worth relishing slowly.
CHALLENGE: The third floor of the house is a section for children. The wall and the floor right next to the open-work wooden stairway, with natural light going through, present a play of light and shadow and shape an enriched spatial perception. Vertical wooden lines form the space at the end of the stairway and go beyond the wall to the ceiling. This consistent directivity serves to diminish the division between the wall and the ceiling and add variety to the space. The open-plan lounging area sits right next to the study, which enjoys a large window that allows natural light to stream in.
