INSPIRATION: L’amour by Journal de Chic is a contemporary design for Chinese festival. In Chinese and other East and Southeast Asian societies, a red packet is a monetary gift which is given during Chinese New Year (CNY) and weddings. People will give a red packet to children, family members and people who are unmarried as a token of good fortune for upcoming year.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: L’amourRed Packet Boxset by Journal de Chic contains 16 red packets, 8 pieces in each side to signify fortune and completeness in life. Merchants can choose out of 26 different designs and combination(“A” to “Z”) according to their initials and personal needs. There are another 4 playful designs (“$”, “500”, “CNY” and “HK”) to pair with the selected packet. Personalized gift offers people a sense of uniqueness and is perfect to create a personal touch for oneself and the people they cherish. Everyone is unique.Target for middle class married people (to be married) who intend to choose personalised red packets to represent oneself as unique, extraordinary and like no other. This design fills the gap in the commercial market in which only traditional red packets with initials in Chinese can be found.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Embossed graphics “Y” connecting to each other represents new year and future years to come, signifies hope and best wishes will last for long in coming decades. A large format of red packet is chosen so that people will not require to fold the dollar note into half while preparing it.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We want to create something new to the market which is original. We understand that the female middle class in Asia would like to spend money on high fashion and luxury accessories. L'amour is new to the market as we do participant observation with female who are over year 30, eager to spend money on individualized items to reflect their social status with unique personality.
CHALLENGE: We spend a lot of time in developing new printing effects that is optimum with our selected paper medium. People may feel good if the red packet is printed with their respective surname in Chinese, however, this design collection is new and would offer an alternative by showing initial in English - that is even more accessible for all at affordable price.
