DESIGN NAME: Flow
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Vase
INSPIRATION: Flow Collection brings 3D perspective into abstract brush strokes. The inspiration of the Collection flows from the Scandinavian aesthetics and a sense of beauty. A simplified shape can become multi-dimensional in glass medium; There is the visual layer of glass: how does the glass reflect, how will the colors look in different light. Above all there are also the historical layers of glass and the rare knowledge behind the craftsmanship.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Flow vase gains inspiration from the elegance of the movement of liquid glass that is frozen into a stasis that is fragile yet forever. The rhythm of the glass making process ensures that every vessel has unique splashes of color that mimic the dance of brush strokes of abstract impression. Every vase has their own breath. Its a methaphor for a soul of a piece that makes it more than mere interior object.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The design philosophy of the collection is to create objects that bring serenity into our everyday life. The moment when a studio made vessel is used is special. When light is gleaming trough the glass, the shadow of the piece comes alive reflecting the inner color play.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was started in January 2021 in Riihimaki, Finland. Exhibited in Hong Kong 2021.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The Flow Collection experiments with the contrasting nature of the medium. How thick and voluminous glass can look weightless and how the optics of the medium influence the movement of color.
CHALLENGE: The creative challenge of the project is to use color in an abstract way and still create harmoniouss impressions. The glass making process of the collection is mixing multiple traditional glass blowing techniques in a fresh and new way.
