| DESIGN NAME: Artika Horizon PRIMARY FUNCTION: Wrist Watch INSPIRATION: The Horizon watch is the final version of this project. This watches reflect the main ideas of the first iterations, which were inspired by the Black Hole and its event horizon, how space can bend under the influence of large forces. So in this watch - the cord symbolizes a space that bends around time beyond its control UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A wrist watch with a cord on the strap. The watch can be worn on the wrist, or as a stopwatch in a pocket or around the neck. Unlike conventional straps, the construction of Horizon watches is simpler and more reliable, there is literally nothing to break. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The watch is put on the hand and pulled together with a special clip. This clip turns the watch into a pendant accessory that can be hung around the neck or tied to clothes. The crown is a separate piece due to its design. The crown is inserted into a special hole, after which the watch can be wound. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2019 in St. Petersburg and ended in January 2020 in Saint-Petersburg |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The dimensions of a real quartz movement were used in the development of this project. Body material - metal, assumed production technologies - additive manufacturing or CNC milling. This is justified by the small circulation and the complexity of the design. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The watch diameter is 43 mm and the depth is 9 mm TAGS: Watch, Stopwatch, Time, Accessory, Gadget, Device. RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The project started as part of a master's project and is part of a collaboration with the Barcelona-based design studio Anima. The task was to develop the concept of a wrist watch for the Artika brand. The main task of the project was to develop a watch that reflects the philosophy of Artik. Also, the idea of the project is the theme of space and time and an attempt to reflect them in the form of a wristwatch. Attempting to integrate the mataphor into both form and function is the basic idea. CHALLENGE: The most difficult thing in this project is the symbiosis of two global tasks, namely: the need to match the brand and integrate another global theme. Such conditions create many restrictions that can alienate a large segment of consumers. To make a product with a complex meaning, which would be interesting, including for an ordinary inexperienced user, it is necessary to offer him new, original functions.
