DESIGN DETAILS |
DESIGN NAME: Nemoo
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Physical Memory Capture System
INSPIRATION: The name Nemoo is inspired by the movie Finding Dory. Dory suffers from memory loss every 10 seconds. With help from her friend Nemo, Dory finds her lost memory and embarks on an epic adventure to find her parents. Nemoo helps users retrieve their early memories. The package looks like a dairy book. Nemoo uses its package for charging and storing which can be cherished and stored in the bookshelf for a long time.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Nemoo is a physical memory capture system designed for fighting against infantile amnesia. It assists with tracking a baby's memory from its perspective for the first three years of its life. It also allows retrieving the important moments in the baby’s growth by playback with VR glasses. The system consists of a baby wearable device, app, and VR glasses.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: By simply attaching Nemoo to baby's hats, it can record the child’s memory from the baby’s perspective. When parents discover a memorable moment, the parent can say the trigger word to start recording. Through the Bluetooth connection, the NEMOO mobile app can remotely manage the settings and storage. With the NEMOO app, the child’s footage is transferred to the parent's phone and automatically transformed into a memorable VR story. It also can connect more than two Nemoo devices at the same time.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started and ended in San Francisco in 4 months.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Childhood Amnesia, also called infantile amnesia, is the inability of adults to retrieve episodic memories, which are memories of specific events, such as times, places, associated emotionally and other contexts like who, what, when, and where, before the age of 3 years old.
CHALLENGE: There are 3 main challenges. Firstly, it's to differentiate it from the regular baby monitor, so we tried to think from a baby’s perspective, including more immersive experience through a VR converting function. The second challenge is when we made the functional model. It was hard to cast a tiny model with comparable sophisticated electronic components. The third challenge is the difficulties of finding an appropriate material to cast the model. It has to be a baby-child friendly material should be soft enough to be touched by an infant baby. Also hard enough to be held in baby’s clothes.

I'm so proud of Yan Yan for winning the A' Design Award for their work, titled "Nemoo". This Physical Memory Capture System for infants is a great example of outstanding design and innovation. It's clear that a lot of research and thought went into creating this product, from its inspiration from "Finding Dory" to the research behind Childhood Amnesia and how it can be combated. The design of the product, from the baby wearable device to the app and VR glasses, is truly impressive.
