DESIGN NAME: Duxiaoxiao
PRIMARY FUNCTION: AI Digital Human Assistant
INSPIRATION: Traditional AI assistants are characterized by interacting with users through voice, the experience of which lacks a sense of authenticity. We expect that AI assistants can provide natural, emotional companionship to users with its digital, face-to-face communication while maintaining the traditional voice interaction. Meanwhile, she can provide a new experience of acquiring structured information and knowledge through the audio-visual integration to adapt to a variety of application scenarios
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Duxiaoxiao, with an appearance of digitalized human, is a new generation of AI digital assistant. Through AI technology, she possesses thinking, expression, emotion, and learning abilities like a human being. By communicating with users, she will gradually develop different personalities and constantly understand users’ preferences. Such anthropomorphic interaction brings a relaxing experience of acquiring structured information and knowledge and an emotional interactive companionship to users
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Duxiaoxiao features anthropomorphic multimodal interaction which can interact with users in a way that. Users can ask Duxiaoxiao by voice when they have questions, and she will display answers and information naturally through different motions, voices, expressions, and attractive interfaces. Users also can chat with Duxiaoxiao when they feel alone. Similar to communicating with friends, users will feel warm and acquainted.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2020 and debuted in China in July 2020, it is still going. The team members were based in Beijing, China.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We create vivid expressions, motions, and words for Duxiaoxiao so that she can communicate with users like a friend through the combination of AI technology and Web 3D engine that balance the performance of a variety of devices. Using Sketch, Protopie, Adobe Effect design the app make the Duxiaoxiao fluent and attractive.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Duxiaoxiao was given a fully responsive design over multiple screen size of Android and iOS-based mobile devices.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We used questionnaires, user Interviews, and desk research to collect user requirements of virtual assistants and the problems of existed products. Abundant research was performed throughout the design including script rehearsal, motion capture, emotion simulation, and 3D rendering to make Duxiaoxiao look authentic and vivid. We utilized small-scope tests, and collected and analyzed user feedback to improve user experience and product customer satisfaction.
CHALLENGE: One of the most significant challenges we faced is creating the humanlike interaction. We need to catch the features of this experience and design it. We built an ΑΙ digital human interaction system that integrates various forms of human-computer interaction and ΑΙ technology. It enabled Duxiaoxiao to have anthropomorphic thinking, expression, emotion, and independent learning ability.
