| DESIGN NAME: Tomorrow Myth PRIMARY FUNCTION: Endangered Animal Pins INSPIRATION: The concept behind is if we do not action to protect the endangered animals today, our next generation can only learn these animals thru story book, just like a myth to them. Under this concept, we picked 6 endangered animals and transform them into mythical creatures, with the inspiration from a Chinese illustration book Shan Hai Jing (book of mountain and sea), this book features lots of imaginative creatures in a Eastern mythical illustration style. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Today, due to the environment change and human behaviour, numbers of endangered animals are dropping significantly. So, the question is “can we still see these animals in future?” To prevent these beautiful animals from extinction, what we can do is to raise awareness and let more people understand about their situation, so that they can have more support and resources to fight against the current situation, just like what pandas in China have experienced. These pins aim to raise the awareness of public towards these endangered animals, instead of split part of the sales profit to animal foundation, we use the profit to produce more pins and donate these pins to relevant animal protection foundation, e.g. Philippine Eagle Foundation, which the sales of these pins will directly benefit the organisation, and they can use these pins for fundraising to maximise the fund they can obtain. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: We first brainstorm the concept and do varies trial on the art direction and pick the suitable endangered animals. Then we start the prototype and get the production fund thru crowdfunding platform, and to promote these pins thru social media. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Start in February 2020 and finished in September 2020 |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: As the concept is about "if we do not action to protect these endangered animals, they will become a myth in future and our next generation no longer be able to see them", thus the art direction and illustration style based on a ancient Chinese illustration book Shan Hai Jing (book of mountain and see), transform these endangered animals into mythical creatures. The backing card of the packaging also reference from traditional Eastern painting, and when the six packaging place together horizontally, a complete painting will be formed by the continuous packing card. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Packaging size : 12cm x 5.5cm Pins size : approximate : 3cm x 3cm Material : Zinc alloy Weight : Approximate 0.8g per pin Packaging : transparent plastic box with 5C printed art card TAGS: pins, enamel pins, endangered animals, tomorrow myth, creative, accessories, crowdfunding RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We have done lots of research regarding endangered animals, interview several wild animal photographers, contact several animal saving foundation, and study many mythical illustration style. CHALLENGE: Since these enamel pins are very detail, the difficult part is on the production to ensure the metal pins can deliver the details.
