| DESIGN NAME: Mushroom Fantasy PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring INSPIRATION: Mushroom fantasy ring is inspired by magic world of mushrooms and the childhood fairytale stories. When I was a kid I used to walk in jungles, play with mushrooms and blow the rain drops all the time. Mushrooms existed for 1 billion years and somehow have managed to remain full of mysteries, these mostly earth-dwelling organisms even can stimulate rain in the atmosphere. Therefor I mixed these two mysterious elements: form of mushroom gills with the golden spiral for the side view, and designed this mysterious ring. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Mushroom fantasy is a ring inspired by magic world of mushrooms. This ring is a wearable piece of art which brings back the joy of surreal childhood fantasies and dreams to the user. the ring has an eye catching appearance with it's unique design and the bold contrast between 18k yellow gold and different shades of natural blue sapphire which represents drops of rain. From side view it has golden ratio design which is pleasant to the eye. This ring is completely hand fabricated from scratch, I also have made the alloy myself and then made the sheets, wires and tubes. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This is an ergonomic ring and it sits very well on the hand. it's unique but comfortable. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: started in november 2019 in Toronto and finished in April 2020 in Toronto/Canada. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: 18K yellow gold which is hand fabricated 100% from scratch. I made the alloy, forged, rolled, made wires/sheets, designed and made the ring. it has natural sapphires which I've set them myself. The ring has mat textured finish by using European wheel brush. As you can see in the photos the layers/gills and the raindrops which are natural sapphires are suspended without any base to hold them, so it was super challenging to solder them in place. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 30 mm x Depth 20 mm x Height 30 mm TAGS: jewelry, ring, jewelry design, gold ring, mushroom ring RESEARCH ABSTRACT: For this design I researched and read a lot about mushroom structure, shape, different types and the growth process. I focused on the gills of mushrooms and found a solution to recreate those with 18k gold. the finishing part with European wheel to have mat textured surface in all the areas was also challenging because of the shape of the ring. CHALLENGE: the most challenging part was to create gills with gold and to solder them parallel to each other without melting them. another challenge were sapphires because they were suspended and I had to solder the settings one by one without melting them, and then cleaning and setting them on that position was super difficult. this design needed lots of attention, patient and craftsmanship. NAME: Sanaz Doost Studio PROFILE: Sanaz Doost studio founded in Toronto/Canada by Sanaz Doost, a Jewelry designer and a former Industrial Designer. Sanaz Doost the founder and owner launched her stuido in late 2019 during her college years while she was studing jewelry design. she was Born and raised in Iran since 18 years old and then became a global nomad and lived in many countries till 2017 which she settled in Toronto. Her design reflects the experiences and challenges she has been through in her journeys around the world. Her designs are bold, brave, unique and elegant. |
