PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Multifunctional Handle

INSPIRATION:
F.lli Razeto e Casareto s.p.a. designs and makes locks and doors accessories since 1920. In 2000 the Innovation & Design lab was founded with the precise task of brining a revolution in the world of door handles. Our handles are multifunctional and carry unprecedented applications. We patented a cable free power and data transfer system to illuminate door handles. Our handles are meant as a luminous extra signage to give safety and management informations i.e the best escape route during a black out, a fire , an evacuation plan.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Ossh is a multifunctional door handle system featuring safety and managements applications. Lighting up in critical conditions Ossh addresses people to safe escape routes. Ossh is available in kits: Stand Alone, for privacy; Wired, for fire doors; Wi-fi to be integrated in domotic systems. Applications are countless and may be customized to meet special needs. Ossh features esi, a permanent antimicrobial anodic protection from viral and bacterial contamination. Tested and certified to kill corona virus, Ossh sanitizes the environment and the hand while opening the door.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Ossh is available in kits, each one performing specific functions according to the environment. Stand Alone: when the door is locked closed the handle lights up red. Wired: in case of fire handles light up green on one side and red on the other side of the door to indicate if an escape route is safe or not. The proprietary communication protocol helps handles and the c.p.u. interact with external safety systems. Wi-fi: handles interact with other devices and change their own color accordingly. The 24/7 disinfecting action is due to the constant emission of silver and other metallic ions.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in Sori in 2018 and was closed in 2020. It was showcased at Salone Nautico di Genova in September 2020. Anti microbial properties were studied in Narni at Paolini S.p.A. and certified with laboratory tests at Università di Modena e Reggio during the lockdown and the pandemic.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The system is composed by: lock and striker plate with power and data transfer device; a pair of door handles with escutcheons. Handles are made of light alloy 6082 anticorodal, finished with esi antimicrobial system, the special permanent anodic protection ; rgb led stripe and an acrylic insert for light diffusion.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Ossh handles operate as intuitive lighting interfaces to indicate escape routes in critical conditions. The function related to fire doors highlighted strong demand of applications in anti intrusion and evacuation plans as well as during a power failure. The simulation of these cases led us to develop the wi-fi integration in domotic systems. Ossh performs a 24/7 disinfecting action, through the constant emission of silver and other metallic ions. Tested and certified by the laboratory of virology at the University of Modena e Reggio Ossh kills corona virus, sanitizes the environment and the hand.

CHALLENGE:
In case of fire it is wise to crawl on the floor where smokeF is more rarefied. Ossh was initially designed for fire doors with a revolutionary iconic double lever shape that allowed it to be challenged from the ground. Tests and meetings with clients led us to modify the design into a more classic L shaped lever with 32 LED's to be visible in the smoke. The coronavirus pandemic was an important push to improve the anodic protection from antibacterial to antimicrobial. Ossh surface cannot be contaminated by corona virus or others.
