DESIGN NAME: Fit In
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Partition and Shelving System
INSPIRATION: The design has emerged with the aim of creating a more dynamic model for partitions used in open office spaces. Co-working areas, which are rapidly spreading today, have triggered the product to be open to interaction, co-creation, and co-operation. Therefore, creation of different modules, and the function of 360 degree rotation has been used. The final form of the product, the overlapping of the three main modules, and the way it touches the ground are inspired from the game Tetris.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Fit In is a movable partition and shelf system that is designed to define and add functions in office spaces. The three main modules of the product can rotate 360 degree separately, moving from a single point. This movement is provided by the bearing system used between modules. While the product can be used more compactly in traditional office spaces, its multiple variations could create a more dynamic and collaborative open office environments.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Users could operate the product in multiple forms. Since, the modules of the product could separately rotate 360 degree, there are endless possibilities to operate Fit In. While the overall product could be used as partition and shelving units, all its main modules have additional functions. With the help of the suitable dimensions, the lowest module could also acts as sitting unit, while the middle module could acts as table top, and the highest module could acts as high desk.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: While the project have multiple design processes, the final detailed part of the designing phase began in August 2020, and finished in December 2020.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Designing the partition and shelving system Fit In started with the idea of possible space and function defining options for open offices. The importance of being able to provide multiple design and organization options within a single design played a pivotal role. In the end, Fit In and its three main modules present a partition and shelving system that could rotate from a single point, and provides almost endless design and organization solutions to both traditional and open office environments. In that sense, Fit In enables collaboration, co-creation, and co-operation with its flexible form and function.
CHALLENGE: The first challenge was creating a single design that offers multiple designs and multiple organizations. In that sense, different connection techniques, and different office environments and layouts were all considered deeply. The most challenging part of the creative process was finding the suitable mechanism that enables the separate 360 degree rotation of the modules. However, it was achieved by using a specific type of ball bearing between the modules.
