DESIGN NAME:

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Restaurant
INSPIRATION:
The original building was a bicycle parking garage for the building, which was cleverly divided into two parts: a parking deck that now serves as a dining area and starting kitchen;The ramps are designed as wine cellars.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project is a private kitchen of a Black Pearl restaurant on the list. It is designed to customize private banquet for important guests of the restaurant, creating a private place for them to enjoy food and communicate with family and friends.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Compared to a normal restaurant, Hik9's dry-aged room, open storage area and professional wine cellar allow you to visually appreciate and select ingredients.The open kitchen allows guests to enjoy the display of different cooking techniques and creates an atmosphere of health and trust.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project began in Shanghai in October 2020 and be completed in Shanghai in December 2020.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
For the materials, we chose bronze and black walnut to match the floodlit lighting to give people a warm and natural feeling.The fair-faced concrete wall highlights the architectural essence, while the white oak is used in the wine cellar to create a professional wine cabinet for storing high-end wine.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
The project covers a total of 160 square meters.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The owners of the restaurant and designers at JFR Studio have agreed to provide friends and regulars with an intimate and comfortable place to enjoy food in this rapid iteration of the stresses of urban life.
CHALLENGE:
In addition to using bicycles from the original building to transform the ramps into wine cellars, the designer also layered the sloping upper part of the terrace space, using the second floor as another storage and display space for food and wine.
So that the original small area, low utilization of space limitations have become HIK9 can be displayed in all aspects of the advantage.

Jeffrey Zee
PROFILE:
Mr. Jeffrey Zee was born in Hong Kong. He traveled to the United States to study at the age of 14, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Columbia University and a master's degree in architecture from MIT. After graduated, he worked at Pei Cobb Freed & Partners in New York. And then he returned to China in 2003, working for some renowned design firms. In 2013, he founded his own design brand – JFR Studio.
In 2009, Jeffrey achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP) granted by the U.S. Green Building Council, and completed DNA Green Design Office , the first interior project with LEED Platinum Certification in China.
Jeffrey’s expertise is in adapting international advanced design concepts to local needs, meanwhile, pursuing design quality and innovation in every project. Since the inception of JFR Studio, he led his team to complete over 100 projects for well-known companies at home and abroad, including high-end entertainment spaces, restaurants, brand showrooms, flagship stores, hotels, and etc. These projects were honored an array of awards such as the IDA International Design Awards, the A’ Design Award, the FRAME Award, the China International Space Design Competition, and the Successful Design Awards.

What was previously a bicycle parking garage has been re-imagined into a stunning private kitchen for the restaurant's important guests.
