PRIMARY FUNCTION: Auto Soap Dispenser
INSPIRATION: Studies have shown that frequent hand washing can reduce the risk of infection by 36%. Keeping your hands clean during the COVID-19 pandemic is an effective way to protect your health. The automatic soap dispenser not only saves time, but also makes it more hygienic. The focus of the project research is the user experience in two aspects of battery installation and product maintenance. The design team drew inspiration from Apple's MagSafe technology to design an easy-to-use magnetic top cover.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The patented top cover design of the magnetic structure strengthens its splash-proof ability and makes it easy to install and replace the battery. It can remove the top cover for cleaning, which can avoid the soap outflow caused by accidentally touching the power button and the sensing area. Its minimal geometric design can be integrated with the home environment. The beveled shoulder shape of the soap bottle reduces the perceived height of the product and improves the user experience.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Open the top cover upward and install the battery. Put back the top cover and touch the power button (the indicator light turns white) to turn on the product. Reach out to the sensing area (the indicator light flashes in white) to get the soap. In standby mode, the white light flashes once every 5s. When the battery is low, the orange light flashes every 2s. In the power-on state, touch the power button or directly remove the top cover to shut down.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project will start in both Shenyang and Guangzhou, China, in July 2020. And in January 2021, the functional prototype was completed and trial production began.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The main material of the shell is injection-molded ABS and PP. Net weight is 187.5g (excluding hand sanitizer and battery). Rated voltage: DC6V.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Product size: 104.5mm x 99mm x 164.5mm. Packing size: 105mm x 105mm x 193mm. Net soap liquid content: 380ml. The longest time to trigger the soap liquid is 0.25 seconds.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This project was established during the COVID-19 pandemic. Its purpose is to increase the public's health awareness and call for reducing the spread of germs through proper hand washing. The design team surveyed about 500 volunteers, and the survey results showed that most of the participants paid attention to the following issues: 1. How to install the battery; 2. Whether the button was accidentally touched when cleaning the product; 3. Modern design; 4. Reasonable price, etc. . Therefore, many tests and improvements have been made on the prototype.
CHALLENGE: After investigation and research, the sense of design begins when the package is opened and the product is assembled, and extends to specific scenarios such as use and maintenance. The challenge is to design a structure that is easy to assemble and disassemble, so that elderly and female users can easily operate with one hand. The design has selected a magnetic structure, and the top cover can be opened from above without the aid of tools. Designed more compact internal components to make the product beautiful and reduce costs.
