DESIGN NAME: Kuoca Premium Blends
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cosmetics
INSPIRATION: To convey the characteristics of sophisticated way of production capturing experts philosophy and tenacity, a fine-dining concept was used for the design. Fine dining restaurants embed stories for each ingredient cooked for a dish. Storytelling sublimates dining as an experience more than a mere stuffing of a stomach.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: KUOCA is a premium skincare brand. We provide high-quality skin care products through the finest raw materials such as white truffle and our own developed raw material processing technology.
Through the design concept of fine dining in a modern premium style, it not only delivered the high quality of the product, but also created a user experience that looks like tasting the chef's fine dining dishes.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: As a result, people don't simply wear cosmetics, they have a premium experience as if they were treated to a high-end restaurant meal.
Kuoca is designed to make sure that the customer can cherish all moments including introduction of cosmetic ingredients, give meanings to each ingredient, process of production and the moment of opening the box. In addition, utilizing diverse motives related to a chef, differentiated visual image is created.
-When it was in the store, it was a new brand with a differentiated package design and texture, but it was made to stand out.
-A gift-like box design makes customer experience all the more special.
-When you open the box, you first see a recipe card with the date of manufacture and ingredients, so you can see the freshness.
-When the card is opened, the concept of chef is conveyed through a container with a neck decoration.
-Used boxes can be reused for other purposes or recycled when discarded.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2019 in Seoul, and finished in August 2019 there, it was officially launched in September 2019 also in Seoul.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: we made it possible to feel the delicate and sensual experience of fine-dining in a premium restaurant through design.
The neckerchief of the product is an element that becomes a key point of design. this is a symbol of the authority of chefs. This is a process of leather, hand-stitched, and engraved logos, all of which are handmade. Through this, it has built up a symbolic image of Kuoca, which has never been seen anywhere.
As it uses organic and natural ingredients, a pumping style bottle is used to minimize aerial exposure. Minimized contacts with hands allows hygienic use of the product. The overall design is simple to create a sophisticated mood, but it has a moderate weight. The body uses a glass material that shows a little inside, and the pump is evaporated with matte metal to create a premium mood.

*Pump-shaped cap to minimize air contact. Glass containers, handmade leather decoration.

*All parts of the package are made of recyclable pulp.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: -A study on the experience of using cosmetics. When focusing on individual package design, the target mood or brand image can be experienced in the entire process from viewing the display in the store, opening the box, using the product, and disposing of the product.
-Set a new standard for purchasing cosmetics. Previously, the expiration date was indicated, but the manufacturing date was not emphasized. As a result, users do not even realize whether the manufacturing date of cosmetics is important. With a design that emphasized the date of manufacture of cosmetics, it proposed a new standard when purchasing cosmetics.
CHALLENGE: KUOCA as a new brand, is targeting for premium market. It was our mission to show that the product is premium through design in a convincing way. So, the concept of the product decided to emphasize not only the aesthetic aspect but also the functional aspect.
The Chef‘s Greeting Card was created to effectively convey the strengths of the product, the good ingredients and the advantages of being produced within 30 days.
Furthermore, to differentiate from other brands, a neck ornament is created that is made of artificial leather, hardly used in existing cosmetics packages. The ornament built an iconic KUOCA-only image that has never been seen anywhere else.
