DESIGN NAME: The Ark of Future
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Private Residence
INSPIRATION: The inspiration comes from Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's design concept, the Space of Flows. After a moderate space transformation, the designer connects the kitchen, dining room, and living room into a public activity space with an area of more than 100 square meters. The public area provides decent space for family interaction and gatherings of friends.
The four bedrooms are set on the edge of the public space and facing the river and mountain views to ensure customer's privacy and comfort.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: It is an interior design case for a residential lived a young couple and two children.
The owner often holds home parties. Thus, they want an open public space but ensure the living function for the family simultaneously.
The designer uses a semi-partitioned space-cutting method to build a public area with great interaction and transparent vision.
The designer applied the technique of Chinese painting in the space, so that the river landscape outside the window is more eye-catching.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The designer has expanded the kitchen functions by setting up hidden wine cabinets and cigar cabinets in the kitchen area. By setting open leisure areas around the kitchen, the kitchen becomes a restaurant, bar, tearoom and rest hall. The integrated area has also become the main area for family communication and gatherings of relatives and friends. This conversion of kitchen functions makes a fantastic life for residents and closer communication between family members.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The designer positioned this space as a carrier of day-to-day life. The sense of existence of the space is minimized through simple spatial structure and lots of blank space. It leaves a free framework for the changing living conditions of the owners, so as to provide more possibilities for the enhancement of the space.
Almost all planes and facades are composed of pure vertical segments. A large number of squares and golden section matrix are used for composition, which is fashionable and full of balanced aesthetic features of "Neoplasticism".
In order to create a simple, natural and bright space atmosphere, the surface of the space uses cement, wood, stone and other building materials which are close to the original state.
The designer rationally uses linear light sources and reflected light sources in different functional spaces in the interior. By expressing the inherent colors, textures and textures of the building materials themselves, a natural atmosphere in the space has been created.
