DESIGN NAME: BonBonne Nuit
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Candy Packaging
INSPIRATION: There are always setbacks in life, and sometimes lucid dreams are the only place to get comfort and where dreamers can freely control. The concept behind this shop is to let their customers to have a taste of their own lucid dreams. In French, bon bon means candy, and bonne nuit means good night. Therefore, the two French words combined together become the brand name, BonBonne Nuit.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In order to fully bring out the concept, imagination is key. The design of the packages uses a montage style that brings together surrealistic elements. Since lucid dreams are controllable, the stories of each package are suggestive of the desires people most likely would have. Moreover, the conceptual names of each product are meant to trigger imaginative sceneries in customers’ heads.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Three pouches, three mini round boxes and two rectangular handle boxes, each with various special flavours of sweets.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: During the research, the key purpose was to look for what kind of design approach would ideally lead users to imagine what they see on the package, as if they were the protagonist of the dream. Illustrating was considered at the beginning to present each dream. This way, though, might feel lack of realism and make it difficult for users to build a connection. Therefore, after considerations, photoshop was chosen to create collages of different elements to finalise the designs of the packages.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge of the design process was to come up with the best way to create a design that leads the viewer to visualise the scenery by only looking at each package. The combination of collaged images, as well as the subtle tone and colour changes, complete the whole design.
