DESIGN NAME: Cap Pac
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Events Promotional Product
INSPIRATION: After seeing how many promotional products and marketing materials were handed out at every event I attended and noticing how much was just discarded and thrown away, I felt that marketing tools should do more for the consumer, by actually being a useful product which helps solve issues at the event and is therefore visually used throughout. As well as this it was vital that the product had to be designed that if thrown away, it would either be recycled or failing this, safely biodegrade.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Cap Pac is a marketing tool designed to raise brand awareness at events. Cap Pac gives consumers multiple useful products all made from one sheet of card. Our product is a sign which has two detachable sun visors. Once the sun visors have been removed, the sign also has a second use, becoming a two-drink carrier, with a version with two removable coasters/coupons, utilising all the material. They are also truly sustainable, each Cap Pac produced actually has a Net Positive impact on the Environment and Society.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: To use the product, start by tearing off the first sun visor by breaking the five points which attach it to the main body of the product. Then repeat this with second sun visor. They are then fastened at the back, helping keep the sun out of the users eyes and the brand name visible. Then they are left with a sign which can have a personalised or tailored message to each event which can be held in the air to show their support. The sign also doubles up as a two drinks carrier, so the user can go to the bar and easily carry drinks back to their seat. Once the drinks are removed, it can then be re-used as a sign again.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project development started in June 2020 in the South of the UK and we have recently launched the product in hopes to be at events this summer.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Either recycled or FSC certified material. Chemical free, VOC free and waterless ink, which has no waste. LED drying ink which uses 20% of the energy that UV drying uses. Produced in a carbon neutral factory powered by renewable energy. Carbon offsetting such as UN-backed project which is helping to conserve 86,000 hectares and regenerate a further 1,200 hectares of deforested of the Amazon. Zero waste to landfill and 100% of the waste is recycled and then fed back into our supply chain.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We asked a group of industry experts, Brand Activation Managers, Merchandise Buyers and Events Organisers questions to pin point the issues they have with what is currently available, what is important to them and what is important to their customers. What became clearly apparent was an issue with uptake and repeated use of the current promotional products, and the want/need for the product to be sustainable and cost effective.
CHALLENGE: While developing this product I faced a few challenges along the way. Creating a configuration where each separate product would fit together, leaving no wasted space, fully utilising the material. Due to the technical functions of each element of the product, choosing the correct martial has been vital. We needed a card that is durable for repeated use as a drinks carrier, but also flexible enough to be able to wrap around and connect the head band for the Sun visors, without the material creasing and compromising the design.
