| DESIGN NAME: Clleper PRIMARY FUNCTION: Fingernail Clipper INSPIRATION: If the nail bits go everywhere, why don't we set a box for them. Then I came up with an idea of fingernail collector, which is every time we cut our fingernails, the nail bits will be collected. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Clleper is named by a combination of nail clipper and nail bits collector. The nail clipper we are using is quite space saving, so, basically, we can bring it to anywhere. However, the occasions where we cut our nails are actually very limited, because every time we cut our fingernails, the nail bits will go everywhere. Clleper has a detached nail bits collector, so, every time we cut our fingernails, the nail bits will be collected. With this clipper, we can cut our fingernails anywhere. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: It is very space saving and easy to use. The using logic is quite similar to the common fingernail clipper. You can rotate the lever and fold it into a small size when you are not using it. As for the collector part, it is detachable. So, after you cut your nails, you can easily detach the collector and pour the nail bits into trash bin, and then easily put the collector back to its initial position. There is a magnet installed inside the collector, so it is very easy to use. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2020 in Lund and finished in December 2020 in Lund. And I found out that there are very certain places where we clip our nails. They are outdoors, bathroom and above trash bin. I noticed that the occasions where we cut our nails are actually very limited. It’s quite interesting that the nail clipper we are using is very space saving, so, basically, you can bring it to anywhere, but you can’t really use it anywhere cause the nail bits will go everywhere. After my research, what really surprised me is that there are no solid products solving this issue. So, people ignoring it is due to they don’t really have a choice. But, I love to create more choices for people. This is why I started my design journey trying to solve this problem. CHALLENGE: It is not easy to put a collector inside such a small clipper. In order to make the nail clipper space saving, the collector has to be inside the clipper. And to successfully collect the nail bits, the collector also has to be very close to the blade. However, on the other hand, due to the lever principle, the pin of the clipper has to be very close to the blade as well. So, the biggest challenge is how can I make both pin and collector near the blades to make their function work perfectly? My solution is to redesign the shape of the pin and restructure the clipper.
