DESIGN NAME: Shenzhen Meland Club
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Kids Theme Park
INSPIRATION: The project is located at southeast of China, where there is few opportunity to see four distinctive seasons. Therefore, the designer wished to create a four seasons themed garden that enables the local children to experience four beautiful seasons in a world of fairy tale. The elements of flower ball, plant stem, butterfly, bee, ladybird and other relative plants and living things are collected in the deconstructive design, and then reorganized into an unexpected natural landscape, rendering deep-seated mysterious hints and stimulating wild imagination.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Meland Club is an indoor parent-child playground located inside Shenzhen Uniwalk Shopping Mall. Instead of using large-scale structures to coordinate conceptual aesthetics and functional blocks, the designer reorganized the logic of space composition with a brand-new internal construction scheme and showcase visitors a garden-like park with four seasons theme that contains perfect functionality.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Customers will be first welcomed with a prosperous spring scene. In the atrium, the floor height was used to set up exciting entertainment facilities such as Rotating Slide and Climbing Rope, which echoes the sporting attributes of the second floor. Most of the recreational experiences on the third floor are leisure activities such as Dress-Up Game, DIY Classroom, etc. Since it not only takes care of the experience of young kids through shortest path, but also avoids the mutual interference between dynamic and static play areas and ensures the comfort and rationality of play to the greatest extent.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in October 2020 in Shenzhen, China
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Interior Space and Exhibition Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The designer built a three-layer platform in the double-height space, which improves the utilization rate of vertical space and at the same time virtually magnifies the experience feeling of internal space and enhances the interest of exploration. The artificially made atriums with stairs built around them guide the customers moving with a clear direction and lead them to their destinations. Every detail has practical functional significance, like the cabinets and shelves camouflaged as plants using for storage, the flower-shaped seats for resting. And the bulbs hanging in the air actually hide lighting and sound equipment in them.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The floor area of the project is 6000 sqm.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Considering the location of this indoor playground is inside a shopping mall, after installing large scale installations the openness of view for customers will get limited. Therefore, we hope through our careful plan, we can not only weaken the sense of crowding, but also integrate functionality into aesthetic design.
CHALLENGE: The difficulty of this project includes how to utilize the huge space of 6000 square meters to incorporate in all the required functional areas and at the mean time made them easily found and accessed. Another challenge lies in how to design the layout of the project to weaken the transitional displacement sense of individuals when exploring different sections.
