PRIMARY FUNCTION: Necklace
INSPIRATION: This jewelry offers a unique way to connect with the most important moments in our lives. I'm fascinated by the idea that "the stars aligned" on our most memorable moments in life, and I think others are, too. By capturing that moment when "the stars aligned" and etching it into a piece of jewelry, this product serves as a lasting reminder of life's finest moments.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Each necklace is custom made based on how the night sky looked during an individual's most important life moments. We create a star map based on the purchaser's specified time and location to create a one-of-a-kind necklace just as unique as their cherished moments. In this design, a darkened engraving is used to show the constellations, orbital lines, and Milky Way galaxy, while circular cutouts are used to represent planets within our solar system.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: In this pendant, a hole, representing the center of the sky, is used to thread the necklace chain through. The necklace chain contains a ball and needle clasp that allows the user to wear the necklace at any length they desire.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: That project started in March 2020 and finished in December 2020 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, United States of America

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Our star maps are generated through proprietary software that combines NASA and ESA data with complex mathematical models to generate a precise representation of the night sky. We then modified a PCB mill, used for manufacturing circuit boards in computers, to etch these star maps to an unparalleled level of precision in our industry. Our necklaces are made from durable brass and plated with a choice of 14k gold, sterling silver, or rose gold to ensure they can stay with us throughout our lives.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The pendant measures 31.75mm in diameter and 1.4mm thick, while the necklace chain is 1.2mm thick and adjustable up to 22 inches.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Being a first-mover on a project like this, there was a lot of research that needed to be done. The key research required for this project was to discover the relationship between time, geographical coordinates, and star catalog data. We carefully examined various scientific papers, theses, and standards to identify these relationships. Using the user-input data and catalogs from NASA and ESA, we were able to generate precise star maps and compare their accuracy to the tools astronomers use.
CHALLENGE: The greatest challenge in this project was creating a very precise and accurate representation of the night sky and displaying it in a timeless design. The natural world is one of the intrinsically beautiful designs, and I believe the night sky is the greatest of them of all. Being able to capture its beauty and represent it in its entirety proved to be a great challenge that involved a lot of trial and error.
