INSPIRATION: Located in Shanghai Songjiang, it is the cultural root of Shanghai. Inspired by the Shanghai teahouse, designers introduced the Glowing Pavilion as the concept for the Segacn commercial office. The fascinating part of this commercial office design is that carries the historical traits and blend in the modernity of business functional space. This novelty design gets away from the classic look and bestows a touch of coolness and modernity to the corporate image.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Glowing Pavilion explores possibilities with space, constructing a seamless pathway for both the state of mind and business function areas. Designers captured the teahouse traits and details, reinterpreted the pavilion design as a center feature to create a visual linkage to each area and enabling smooth escorts of guests from the reception and lobby lounge to the pre-function lounge and conference room behind, simultaneously, it further serves as a division for these areas, while ensuring privacy.
It is the wish of the designers to sprinkle visitors sitting at the lobby lounge with a little tranquility, designers formulate the outdoor seasonal elements and the façade glass opening to create the beautiful scenery garden from the interior, framing the exterior garden like a piece of art.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The design values human connection. Inside the Pavilion, a semi-enclosed teahouse is introduced to the project as an alternative venue for casual business activities, which encourages engagements and collaborations for both clients and employees in an amicable atmosphere.
The conference room design presents a lasting corporate impact on employees and visitors. The mini center island is elaborately custom-made for the presenter standing and moving around smoothly to interact with each audience. The meeting space remarkably reveals the corporate identity and core value with a professional and reliable reputation to the visitors.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Applying the "Methodological Triangulation" to increase the accuracy of design findings generating from Literature review, interviews, focus groups and observation.
By reviewing the secondary source through books and journals to understand the historical background and information of the project site and environment. The office is located in the comparatively tranquility district, which is a cultural root of Shanghai.
Conducted semi-structured interviews with the Chairman of the company to grasp their vision and corporate image, it enables designers to receive insights on how they expect design can improve the management, operation and team spirit.
Observing the previous office environment valued the designers to investigate the disadvantages and daily working obstacles, and to rethink the workflow and corporate impact.
Piloting focus group with the employees to collect the data on the good office environment they look for. A social setup promoting an inviting, relaxing environment sometimes can improve work efficiency.
CHALLENGE: The deviation may be caused by the focus group that some participants are hesitant to share deeply their views.
The challenge of communicating with the local contractor on the design details and material application.
