DESIGN NAME: Wink
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Wearable Action Camera
INSPIRATION: With the steady development of SNS and new media, people have steadily expanded the means of daily communication from contact to non-contact and from verbal to non-verbal. As a result, sharing one's videos and photos on social media is not a record of special moments on a special day, but rather an act of communication between ordinary people. Inspired from this, 'Wink' is designed to make video sharing more immediate and natural as a routine communication.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The product is designed to make life-logging and video sharing more immediate and natural as a routine communication. Through this, it was intended that video filming would turn into ‘an act of natural daily record and sharing’, not something that interferes with one's daily life.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: 'Wink' is a wearable action camera that can be attached to both, on your wrist and your chest. When attached to the chest, it records the user's daily life without any manual operation. If there is an incident that needs to be captured, as the user presses the extruded side button, the camera saves past 15 seconds of the recordings. If the user is in a situation where cameras are not allowed, the camera module can be attached to the wrist band, acting as a small communication device.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in March 2020 in Seoul, Republic of Korea, and finished in June 2020, and was exhibited online in K-Design Exhibition 2021.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Despite the endeavor to minimize the size of action cameras, it was impossible to make them slim because of the inherited thickness of the zoom lens. Therefore, existing products had to give up either portability or performance. On the other hand, there have already been periscope camera modules that reduce their thickness by bending the flow of light penetrating the lens by 90 degrees using prisms. However, it is rare to find applications of this technology other than in the mobile phone industry. This uses this periscope camera module to maximize portability by reducing the thickness of the product to suit the form factor as a wearable device without compromising its image resolution.
