DESIGN NAME: Cigar Age
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Commercial Space
INSPIRATION: In response to the clients pursuit for a high-end custom-made bistro, the designers created a tranquil and charming space in the heart of the city, in the hope that people who enter this space will be treated to an aesthetic feast that transcends time and space. The smoky textures paired with antique dyed leather and technical control functions are used to create a sophisticated interior that is both private and unique.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Spaciousness and transparency are the main axes of the overall space setting. Under the distribution of smooth circulations, the use of high ceiling space design allows the independent booths and storerooms to present a layered and changing appearance. In response to the demands of different spaces, have adopted an exclusive design for humidity control, the configuration of corridors, the cutting of cabinet laminates, and the application of ventilation grills for proper allocation of functions.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: In order to provide guests with a feeling of spaciousness and comfort, and to maintain an appropriate degree of privacy in all kinds of open spaces, the designers used spacious sofas as the main soft furnishing and made sure there was moderate spacing for the layout and circulation. In the entire space, they used dark and subdued colors as the main tone and chose red bricks, wood, and dyed leather to create a hazy, retro texture, presenting a unique scene that penetrates time.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in September 2016 in Taipei City, Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This is a commercial bistro, and considering the customers feelings in the space, the design aims to create a spacious and comfortable atmosphere, and at the same time satisfy the clients desire for a unique and high-end custom-made space. The designers used materials such as leather, wood, and black iron, and used retro design techniques to create a smoky, vintage atmosphere. Also, a variety of space configurations are planned to satisfy all guests.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The entire space is a combination of an open dining area, a bar area, a wine cellar, a cigar room, and private booths. In these various spaces, the designers used retro materials and techniques, such as dyed leather, red bricks, and material distressing, etc., and at the same time, allocated each area with its own function, so that the distribution of different scenes in the space can retain their respective functions and the consistency of the whole space.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The entire space is a commercial bistro. In consideration of space configuration, the color scheme is based on the use of retroelements as the main axis of the space. While maintaining the harmony of the overall style of the space, the designers have made more ingenious changes. In the overall configuration, the three spaces - cigar room, wine cellar, and private booths - are presented as varying glass cubes with multiple layers under the high ceiling and within the overall low and calm spatial tone.
CHALLENGE: In the deployment of the wine cellar, in addition to picking exquisite materials, the emphasis on functional control is also considered in many aspects. The exclusively-designed humidification configuration that measures the height of the ceiling and the coordination with the air conditioning system installment was first made while installing a special temperature and humidity regulator, then the design of the air intake duct that forces the air back to the space to return to the airflow was decided upon.
