DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Hideaway Cafe

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Restaurant

INSPIRATION:
The Japanese-style restaurant is located next to the Xike Railway Station in New Taipei City. The place offers western food with Japanese taste and basically for office workers and families nearby. However, in the binning, the condition of the space is not very well, because this space is more than 30 years old. By taking our plan, for this space, to mix the Eastern and Western cultures, the harmony and Japanese Restoration period was reappeared, as well as the western design style. The environment of this case is located in the old community, and the new science park is nearby. People go to this restaurant to relax after getting off work and before taking the train. The door is on the right side of this space, not in the centre. The door is not very big, about 90cm, to reduce its commercial atmosphere. The restaurant is called "Hideaway Cafe", and the environment seems to be "hiding and seeking" with people and "hiding" in a community to maintain privacy and increase the interest in searching. The door is made of a Japanese style wooden grille, embedded in glass, and it is purely handmade. The wooden door gives people a warm and caring feeling. After opening the door, there is a small entrance area, and the entrance also has a wooden grille, which increases the permeability of the space, but also keeps the privacy of the diners, which is not so direct. Even so, the counter can be seen in the entrance, and it has the guiding function of the space. Behind the counter, there is a kitchen, which can assist the work of the counter. The seating area of this restaurant is divided into two parts, one area is located in front of the counter, which is relatively open. The other area is on the side of the counter area, which is relatively private. The private seating area has a wooden door frame. The function is to add curtains to the door frame to block different seating areas during small gatherings.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The manager of this restaurant is Japanese nationality and lives in Taiwan for many years. Therefore, we reproduce the Meiji Restoration style of Japan in this interior design, using elements such as the glass wall lamps, ceramic tiles, pine woods. We also add the Japanese Sake and wood tree to return the interior to the outdoor space and keep the Japanese tradition that people sometimes drink under the tree. Also, we wish to soothe the homesickness of people who lives far away from their home.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The harmony and Japanese Restoration period was reappeared, as well as the western design style.

NAME:
Da Tang

PROFILE:
The origin of design cares about people's lives. Datang Design is aims to add the five sense experiences sights, hearing, touch, smell and taste become the basis of design. The direction of the heart, bliss and harmony. Datang care about the "private domain" and "public domain" communication. Therefore, they advocate the concept of American sociologist Ray Oldenburg, who proposed "Third Place" in his book "The Great Good Place" in 1989, and promote a third place that can be communicated in the public and private spheres. The space is not only sheltering wind and rain, it has multiple functions, but it may also make people free from the busy hustle and bustle. To drink coffee, read books, meditate, relax... In addition to physical relaxation and the mind is also nourished. The original intention of returning to space makes people find the feeling of stability. "Datang" means" a big pond" in Mandarin, which is full of natural beauty and life force. People can find a corner of relaxation in the busy tempo, create a space between formal and informal, and find a stable balance.
