DESIGN NAME: Roses and Kaleidoscope
PRIMARY FUNCTION: NFT Digital Art
INSPIRATION: Kaleidoscope patterns, symbolize change and growth. The even symmetry of the patterns is a representation of balance and harmony. In some cultures around the world, kaleidoscopes are tools for meditation and self-reflection. The Roses and Kaleidoscope collection aims to exhibit works of great symmetry and balance. In June 2020, I was invited to join the first NFTs exhibition at the Laguna Beach Fine Art Gallery, which inspired the first 1000 Roses and Kaleidoscope NFTs illustrations collection.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: I work with Unicode & ASCII 8 & 16-bit characters using them as my basic building blocks to design patterns, abstract models, and digital illustrations. My design process starts in HTML text fields on the Facebook page. Roses and Kaleidoscope series aims to search for the aesthetic of perfect symmetry and balance that mimics organic nature. Using Unicode characters as my only design tool to make geometrical patterns that morph like in the natural world representing the golden ratio of harmony and balance.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This project examined the range of possibilities for Unicode and ASCII systems for sophisticated and brilliant design. It exhibits how we can expand the use of the 8-bit simple system to develop a graphic system for interchange. Manipulating the simple HTML text field, ASCII, and Unicode characters, I was able to transform the traditional text editor input field into a digital drafting paper and discover the infinite possibilities and variations that can be used in the production of digital patterns.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in June of 2021 in Berkeley, California. In February 2022 it was exhibited at MuseumIO, Laguna Art Gallery, California. At the same time, it was NFT minted and dropped into The Open Sea. At this time a digital print is on exhibition at Multisala Corallo, Italy.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: I work with ASCII & Unicode systems. By typing Unicode 8 and 16 bit characters into the text field and copy and paste repetitive actions, I create digital graphic patterns, which later are transformed into different functional objects. In the past ten years, the wall of ASCII Facebook/Museum transformed to be my digital canvas for graphics and patterns interchange online in real-time. In 2012, I started the ASCII Facebook Museum page as my academic research project for ASCII & Unicode pattern bank.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: All the digital models of the kaleidoscope in this presentation share the same fundamental design principle - of 2x2 identical cubes that merge one into the other to mimic a real kaleidoscope. This model of 2x2 merging identical cubes is consistent throughout the entire design of the models. Dimension: 1cube is 1pixel, 300dpi to 2400dpi, 3600 x 3600px

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Utilizing Unicode and ASCII characters over HTML text fields to design instant graphics and patterns live in an online environment for digital art, illustrations, pattern making, and model design.
CHALLENGE: How to create eco friendly graphics, design patterns using ASCII and Unicode characters online in real time. As a graphic artist, my research was to overcome the limitation of the HTML text only editing fields and find a way to design graphics in an online environment for fast and effective ways of graphic communication.
