| DESIGN NAME: Qi2 PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multi-Modularized Water Purifier INSPIRATION: The design comes from the ARRAY of BRICKs. Water purification needs multiple combinations of water treatment methods depending on the water quality, just like ARRAY of BRICKs. The water treatment methods have been built into different modules or filter cartridges, such as PolyPropylene, Active Carbon, Ultra Violet, UltraFiltration and Reverse Osmosis etc.. The household consumers can then make their own choice of water purifiers simply by the water quality of the area they lives, and they can easily add, reduce and replace filter cartridges at any time at any conveniences by their own. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Our mobilized state-of-the-art design allows consumers to D.I.Y. whatever water purifier function and whenever they need. It has solid filter cartridge design, so the combined cartridges becomes the purifier itself. It's time-saving by replacing patented filter cartridges. With modular cartridge, it can be easily switched between RO, UV and direct drinking systems. We also have optional filters or functions from one to multiple combinations, more like IoT censoring module, flavor/taste module and instant cooling/heating module. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Straight forward and easy to install, add, reduce and replace filter cartridges with simple tool and supporting rods inside the product package. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: By doing global water purifier market research in Winter 2018, we started the project workshop in Taiwan. With proposed blueprint, design validation, engineering validation, product validation, and then trial production in Summer 2020, our Qi2 product is honored to receive the Gold Medal Award among 535 pieces in the Taiwan Innotech Expo in September. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The realization of sluice-type replacement method comes from the plastic injection machine. We noticed that the injection machine must overcome the high liquid pressure with no leakage, so it could be achieved the same as in the waterway. With designated parameters in the plastic production for our design, we make the waterway water-tight, which owns 2 invention patents, as well as the elegant outlook. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Consumers can choose their own combinations of filters up to 5 specific filters. With 1 filter: L17 * W12 * H44 CM With 2 filters: L25 * W12 * H44 CM With 3 filters: L33 * W12 * H44 CM With 4 filters: L41 * W12 * H44 CM With 5 filters: L49 * W12 * H44 CM (Maximum) Space required to change filters: 18 * 44 CM TAGS: Modular design, Water, Purifier, Filter, Water Treatment, QI, water purification system, water filter, filter cartridge RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The team realized that user has been troubled by traditional purifier after brainstorming with collecting market data and conducting some user experience workshops. Form Follows Function was then integrated into our design for the product. CHALLENGE: Simplified modulized design make it easier not only for user but also for manufacturing. Replaceable waterway reduces the usage of the whole water purifiers, thus reduces the resources of the planet.
