DESIGN NAME: Tiles Weight Scale Design
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Measure Body Weight
INSPIRATION: The source of the inspiration is from the cold touch brought by the floor tiles when entering the bathroom, which makes people feel the atmosphere of the bathroom. In terms of this feeling, it is very similar to the feeling of standing on the weighing machine with bare feet, which thus makes me want to make a weighing machine with tile shape.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This tiles weight scale gives users a completely new experience. We design the traditional electronic weight scale into the shape of a bathroom floor tile. When users take off clothes and step on the scale with bare feet, the cold feeling comes from the soles of feet, which is similar as entering into the bathroom preparing for bath. We hope that users can feel the lightness like standing on the bathroom floor tiles undressed when using it.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Take off your shoes and socks, stand up on the scale, and the number on the scale will appear.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in November 2019 in Guangzhou and finished in January 2020 in Guangzhou

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: It consists of a load-bearing system (weighing scale), a force transfer system (load cell) and a display system (electronic display instrument).

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: By starting with the unconscious design method, the concern between the user and the product is studied in depth, theory and practice are combined with each other, and the unconscious theory is used as the foundation, and the output of the work is used as theoretical support in the theoretical study.
CHALLENGE: The challenge in the design process comes from the generation of ideas and the extrapolation of form.
