RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The Karl Lagerfeld designed stainless steel tiles that compose the main floor space in the demo space were realized through commissioning an aluminum finishing factory for their production at a cost of over USD 30,000. Following strict requirements, the finished 1m2 tiles are scratch resistant, and dissipate heat easily allowing them to maintain consistent shape throughout thermal fluctuation.
CHALLENGE: In working out this demo apartment, the main challenge was arranging the layout to achieve the open floor plan within an office building, while avoiding the main building support columns. Another challenge was to present the space as an upper floor design, while in actuality being located on a lower floor of the building. The effect was accomplished through light colored cloth window dressings and blinds obscuring the view while allowing natural light through.
