| DESIGN NAME: Nanxing Yanlord 185A PRIMARY FUNCTION: Show Apartment INSPIRATION: For the design of Yanlord Nanxing Show-Apartments, we have been inspired by the concept of "home" as a healing space and promoter of a relaxed and inspiring lifestyle. We wanted to create a container for life and art, a place where the family can find its comfortable refuge from everyday stresses. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Yanlord Nanxing Show Apartment proposes a new young Chinese modern lifestyle. Art is becoming increasingly more important for wealthy Chinese families, the fast pace of working life makes it necessary for the people to seek inspiration and regeneration inside the domestic walls. The interior design focuses on each of the smallest rituals of everyday life, trying to enhance their beauty, while the works of art set the style and the character of the spaces. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Nanxing Yanlord show apartment reveals itself to the users over time, like an old barrel of wine. The natural tone of wood of the cabinetry at the entrance welcomes you with a warm feel, while you leave your coat and shoes. The apartment unveils quietly to the open living room with the beautiful large window to the outside and the western-style dining area. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Our design work is highly specialized and derives from close collaboration between designers, client and specialized workers. The design is developed to infuse our vision and expertise with client's aspirations. Refined details showcase the capabilities of the specialized manufacturers and the beauty of each material. Great attention is paid on every joint, especially where different materials meet. We make use of light and shadow to the scale of the millimeter, to give depth to the space. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The space measures 185 square meters over one floor, located in Hangzhou, near the river Qian Tang, where a new residential development provides homes surrounded by beautiful and quiet landscape. TAGS: Interiors, showapartment, apartment, Design, China, Luxury, Residential, Home RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Our research is focused on the creation of manifold meaningful moment. With a ritualistic view of everyday life, we tried to magnify the experience of the inhabitants in each moment of the day. The research has been developed through years of activity and experiments, testing constantly the different scenarios of everyday life, how geometry, materials and light interact with our subconscious. CHALLENGE: One of the challenges we had to face is to create a space that may be enjoyed and appreciated by a great number of people. We tried to create a meaningful design that could show the beauty of a new lifestyle with such an impact that a vast public could perceive and envision their own life inside the apartment. The success of the project doesn't rely only on the beauty of the design, but also on its universal message in the reality of Hangzhou culture and society. NAME: MDO PROFILE: MDO is an award winning architecture and interior design practice based in Shanghai dedicated to creating innovative and beautiful bespoke solutions. Our approach is highly spatial, exploring scale and proportion, and creating journeys and stories rich in detail, material and light. MDO was founded by Jaycee Chui in 2014. An ARB qualified Architect and interior designer, Jaycee over 16 years of experience in London, Hong Kong and China. Her international background fused in Eastern and Western cultures, helps to develop the practice across China. Her approach focuses on the emotional response to space and design and the beauty of everyday space. Justin Bridgland is an RIBA Chartered architect from London with over 17 years experience working on award winnings projects in London, China and the Middle East. His work is sculptural, focusing on scale and proportion and the use of light. His projects are highly detailed, emphasizing the relationship between concept and craftsmanship |
