DESIGN NAME: Casa Marina
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Interior Design
INSPIRATION: Answering the owner's request, it is a design full of simplicity and Minimalism concept. While no sumptuous or luxurious items such as metal and marble stone can be seen in the house, a neutral color palette is well applied to the design so as to create an amiable environment and the best place for the owner to seek for calmness.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: It is a eight-storey house at Casa Marina in Tai Po, Hong Kong. This design with Minimalism concept plays a best fit to the owner's requirement. The designer managed to applied less than five colours within the whole house to maintain a harmonious and consistent experience as well as to match owner's personality and the structure of the house. Particularly, stylized chandeliers and wall lamp installed have been installed, not only to act as an embellishment, but also lower down the focal point in such a high-ceiling environment.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: To make sure the owner can fully make use of the spacious house, the designer transformed some of the bedrooms to functional rooms. For example, an extra large bathroom with a lily-white bathtub at the centre and a dressing room-like cloakroom. However, due to the half-storey design of the house, it is inexpedient for the owner or guests to walk up and down. Therefore, bathroom, closet and television are installed in every room.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in March 2019 and is completed in September 2019.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Sunlight can be easily brought to the living room and kitchen due to the floor-to-ceiling windows. Thus, darker colours are applied to these two areas in order to balance the lighting contrast and further reduce the spaciousness and emptiness. For rooms in upper levels, the designer managed to applied lighter colours to reduce the oppression and create a relaxed environment for the owner.
CHALLENGE: There are two main challenges for this particular design. Firstly, this house is half-layered structured, therefore there is one room on each level and stairs in between. It was quite perplexing to turn the house to a space that fits the owner's requirements and needs. Moreover, the ceiling level of the house is disproportionately high when comparing with the area of each level which then an insecure atmosphere were set up.
