| DESIGN NAME: Free and Easy PRIMARY FUNCTION: Easel INSPIRATION: At present, similar easels waste a lot of space for gathering and storage, inconvenient transportation and cost increase, especially for schools and arts studios. Also, during using time, the existing triangle easels block space, is really affects the sight artists and tutorship of teachers. Free and Easy is a solution for these problems and also can be used in outdoor sketching. It is really easy for users to curry with and also has reasonable space for color palette and painting tools. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Free and Easy is a new type of easel design, presenting more possibilities, so as to meet the needs of consumers in a variety of use scenarios, such as small studio of SOHO crowd, outdoor sketch, classroom application of art class, etc. It is easy to pull and carry, fitting for the car trunk, also convenient for outdoor sketching and stable when being used. It is convenience for assembly and transportation, flat and neat shape in storage, space saving and greatly reducing transportation cost. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: When users want to raise the height of their drawing board, they only need to adjust the left and right plastic wheels used to control the bracket. Picture box cover plate and color palette combined in one of the design not only save space but also makes users more easier in taking their placed painting material. On the support bar of the easel, the position limit Angle of the u-shaped metal clip is placed on the top of the support bar. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2019 in LAFA Communal Facility Design Studio and finished in January 2020 in National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Industrial Design in LAFA. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The frame of the easel is made of two materials, one is made of wood, the other is made of nylon engineering plastic. It also has metal fasteners and magnets as accessories. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 560mm x Depth 100mm x Height 1300mm TAGS: Redesign, Easel, Usability, Portability, Light RESEARCH ABSTRACT: As an important part of painting tools, easel is an indispensable tool for every painting enthusiast and professional workers. By observing the market of painting supplies, you can easily find that the renewal and iteration of painting related products are very slow, many painting products lack of revolutionary ideas and product upgrading. Based on the market research and field visit of easel, designers puts forward a solutions, that is Free and Easy , to the existing problems of easel products from the perspective of productization. CHALLENGE: In the process of lightweight easel design, based on ergonomics and guided by the design concept of product design, the designer combines the manufacturer's production demand with the user's use demand to conduct a comprehensive analysis and research on the structure, function, material, user interaction and other aspects of the easel. The challenge of our design is that we cannot find a reasonable way in it’s appearance which is satisfying in function at the beginning. After a certain number of sketching and discussing of our project, we finally find the proper selection which achieves the desired effect.
