DESIGN NAME: Alpha Series
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Shaver
INSPIRATION: Providing hygienic and joyful user experience was the inspiration for the idea behind the project. Design language is completely inspired from Scandinavian design characteristics. Simplicity, minimalism and functionality combined with easy user interaction built the fundamentals of the product.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The main aim was to design a compact, semi-proffesional shaver that can handle the basic tasks for facial care. Also a product that offers hygienic solutions with innovative approach combined with beautiful aesthetics. Joyful user experience was the key.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The only button on the body of the shaver covered by led light is the interaction point of the product. It simply turns on/off the device but the led gives feedback about battery. When its charged and ready to use it lights white, when the charge is critical the led turns in to red, and also it blinks in red when its off charge. The dock is designed to charging the shaver and cleaning the tips supported with UV Light inside. Tips can be easily taken off the shaver and placed in to the storage section. The storage allows the product to be completely clean and tidy.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2019 in Istanbul/Turkey and lasted until the end of June 2019.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The brief was very broad at the start. It was to design a unique personal care product for the brand Grundig. I started research process with trend analysis and market opportunities. The process also supported with focus groups with man aged between 18-50 to be able to define the existing problems with the shavers and consumer demands.
CHALLENGE: The sketch ideation was the most challenging part of this project. I had to put too much effort for sketching process to be able to refine the design and come up with the most unique, minimal and simple form solutions.

Grundig is one of the few brands that owned by Arcelik Group. The project is made as a internship project at Arcelik Group. The product is not produced but the design is copyrighted by Arcelik Group.
