| DESIGN NAME: Iconic Sx80 PRIMARY FUNCTION: Hybrid Yacht Design INSPIRATION: Her sweeping exterior curves are inspired by the rolling waves of the ocean, with the hull flanked by 6 meters of glass to blend the relationship between super yacht and sea, and to prove that the Iconic Sx80 is as innovative as it is appealing. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Iconic Sx80 is emboldened by an innovative and functional design, sleek and bold surfaces, and renewed attention to detail to bring a new vision to the super yacht design industry. This 80 meters long vessel has characteristics of an expedition vessel and a performance superyacht combine to compliment and contrast, to ensure as a hybrid yacht appeal widely and resonate deeply. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This custom displacement yacht is a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, with anchor stabilizers that work at zero speed, increasing onboard comfort when anchored and on rough waters. With a cruising speed of 18 knots, a maximum speed of 20 knots and a range of 7,500nm from her 200,000-litre fuel tanks, she is the excellent combination of performance, utility and luxury. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project started at May 2019 and Exterior Design Details and General Arrangement Plans are finished at January 2020. Interior design details are still work in progress. Estimated time of the completed design is May 2020,Sydney/Australia. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Its interior design maximizes levels of quality and comfort while utilizing recycled materials where possible for global sustainability reasons. This hybrid superyacht supports five different operation modes from diesel and diesel-electric combinations to a fully electric propulsion system which produces less noise and reflect the needs of clients to be more environmentally responsible. The Iconic Sx80’s top speed in hybrid mode is 20 knots. Power comes from a 30-tonne lithium-ion battery bank capable of holding 1 million watts of electricity. Even in diesel mode, the Iconic-Sx80 is highly efficient, with 30 per cent lower fuel consumption than her contemporaries relating to her dynamic hull shape. Collecting information and comparing propulsion systems, batteries, how much space the hybrid system requires on the same size built vessels took a solid 2 weeks of research. Additionally there were a lot to learn about how to keep design simplistic and minimalist without using less equipment on board. The most exciting part was learning new materials to use on exterior and interiors which are recycled and environment friendly. CHALLENGE: Trying to keep the design as minimal and functional as possible while holding the one of most luxurious experiences on board as high priority was very challenging. Also the lower deck portholes are arranged to write "Love" in morse code which was very challenging to align exterior design and interiors in the same time.
