DESIGN NAME: The Atticum
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Restaurant Bar Rooftop
INSPIRATION: Architecturally, the history of the Schips company as a specialist for machines and automation in the field of textile production was taken up. The charm of a restaurant in an industrial environment should be reflected in the architecture and furnishings.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Around the black core of the company with kitchen, cloakrooms and storage rooms, the lounge, the restaurant with a large roof terrace, the bar with fumoir, the toilets and the children's playroom were arranged along the window fronts.
The central element is the show kitchen glazed to the guest area. Opposite it, the central regulars' table is placed in a standing version and is illuminated by a specially manufactured lamp made of copper pans. In addition to variably placeable tables, cosy cubes have been inserted into the central cube, which are already proving to be a magnet for guests.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The newly created location on the roof should be a meeting place for young and old. A
A place where you can escape from everyday life and simply feel at home - like at home among friends.
The credo is always the same: hospitality in a personal and simple way.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Planning started in 2015

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The charm of a restaurant in an industrial environment should be reflected in the architecture and furnishings. The black and grey lime plaster, which was specially developed for this project, is one of the proofs of this. Its unique, rough structure runs through all the rooms. In the detailed execution, materials such as raw steel were deliberately used, whose welding seams and grinding marks remained visible. This impression is supported by the choice of muntin windows. These cold elements are contrasted by warm oak wood, hand-planed herringbone parquet and a fully planted wall behind wired glass.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Restaurant with 1'000 square meters of floor space

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The concept, to which the construction and design work also had to be subordinated, provides for a focus on local guests from all walks of life with simple dishes made from regional products.
The planning by the architect's office Florian Studer also took into account the diverse usability of the rooms in order to be able to extend the anchoring in the population beyond that of a classic restaurant.
CHALLENGE: "Especially when planning in the gastronomy sector, knowledge of processes, usage requirements of the different employee groups and the sustainability of materials are decisive points for the future viability of a business. This is where I was able to contribute my experience in a very unusual way in a coherent overall concept
