| DESIGN NAME: Sign of Care PRIMARY FUNCTION: Virtual Traffic Sign INSPIRATION: Krungsri Auto, Thailand’s leading automobile leasing company, has launched LET’sponsible road safety project since 2014. This year Traffics Sign is what we select to be the design format. We hire professional designer to communicate the messages that has never been in the existing traffic signs. We purposely include a tiny symbol of people into some designs. This help create powerful and deep meaning. We hope when you see it, you’ll drive safely for both yourself and for the ones who care you. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Imagine how many years the traffic signs have never been updated to nowadays situations. Introducing Never-before-Seen Virtual Traffic Signs created to reflect those challenging behaviors to road safety that need drivers/riders’ attentions. It needs no space on the roadside, just share it to the ones you care. With just one image that has been shared, you may help minimize the road accidents or even save people's life. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Virtual Traffic Sign had been spread organically on Social Media and the results are stunning as it reached 2.9 million people with amazing 9,600 Facebook shares and we also displayed it as Physical Traffic Sign during Chiang Mai Design Week and Bangkok Design Week which we'd got many positive feedback through 1,500 people joining the activities in the booth at those two on-ground events (see our VDO). PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We strictly design this project according to the existing Traffic Sign format with rectangular shape in vertical as the background and put the circle shape with / in the middle for those behaviors that should be avoided. While the diamond shape is for behaviors to be cautious. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Virtual Traffic Sign Size Width: 624 Pixel Length: 1040 Pixel Physical Traffic Sign Size Width: 45 Cm. Length: 75 Cm. TAGS: trafficsign, trafficsigns, traffic, traffics, sign, signs RESEARCH ABSTRACT: According to WHO (World Health Organization) report in 2018, Thailand is among the top 5 countries with the highest number of road accidents. In 2019, we still had not improved ourselves much. What we can do, as the private sector, is to increase road safety awareness. Nowadays Thai drivers’ behaviors had been brought to discussion and ‘Using phone while driving’ is one of the behaviors that needs an urgent attentions. We saw many Thais are still doing this in real-life. For other behaviors in the signs are all based on statistics we observe through Social Media and also the traditional media like TV and Newspaper. CHALLENGE: First, we brainstormed what are the problematic behaviors that we all see it happen nowadays in our society which some may be applicable to only Thailand or Southeast Asian Countries or some may be at a global level. Then, for the designing process, it took longer time as we had to discuss how to differentiate these traffic signs from the existing traffic signs. That's why we had put a tiny symbol of people into the 9 of 13 designs so it could be more than just a sign but a 'Sign of Care'. Also, the representing people and its position of each tiny icon was different too as to create better storytelling for each sign ranging from Pregnant Woman, Mother, Son, Seniors, etc. (see pdf file for details).
