DESIGN NAME: Chain Reaction
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Tenon and Mortise Toy
INSPIRATION: The design inspiration comes from the mortise and tenon structure in the traditional wood structure building, which can be split up and down and combined freely. There are about 20 kinds of combination ways, that is, a building block toy and home furnishings.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This wood device captures the aesthetic symbol of traditional porcelain, and divides and reconstructs it through the structure of the cymbal. The lateral dovetail structure and the longitudinal pin structure are interlocked to each other, thereby realizing the lock function in each module. There are a myriad of geometric dimensions, and users reorganize through the search for common dimensions between modules, high and low, forming a series of new visual languages.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This design is connected up and down by dovetail tenon, and fixed by bolt. It can be unlocked only after the bolt is removed, and different sections can be combined freely
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This design was designed and produced in Taipei in 2019, and participated in the exhibition of tenon mortise theme in Shenzhen in 2019

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This product looks very simple and elegant in appearance. However, when people see that the design is composed of layers of modules, they will inadvertently think about the structure inside. In fact, multiple mortise and tenon joints allow them to combine freely. At the same time, when a structure is removed, the whole utensil can be unlocked easily. This is the charm of mortise and tenon joints, which makes it not only functional but also interesting
CHALLENGE: The precision requirement of the product is relatively high, so we finished it through woodworking carving. In the dimension design of the bolt, we fully considered the factor that the human finger is easy to split
