DESIGN NAME: Blending Soul

INSPIRATION: Forbidden City in Beijing (China)
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The golden walls carries ancient meanings, and the contrasting vivid blue background culminates into a fashionable and trendy product combining traditional Chinese culture with the modern.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The product is usable which concerned with allow users to effectively and efficiently achieve their end objective with the fashion jewellery like matching in daily.
The product is also valuable. It delivers value not only to the business which creates it but also to the user who buys or uses it.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Designer started the project in May of 2019 and completed the final design in Italy in during July 2019. The product was exhibited in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Tokyo, New York Fashion Week in 2019.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Chinese culture is one of the world's oldest cultures, originating thousands of years ago. It is mysterious for not only foreigners but also to Chinese themselves. There are too many stories behind the history and it is not that easy for all of us to read through.
Therefore, I took a visit to the "Forbidden City" and "Great Wall of China '' in Beijing. During the visit, I got inspiration from there and decided to input those elements in my design products. As a Hong Kong fashion designer, I usually represent Hong Kong to participate in different worldwide Fashion Week. Through the opportunities, it is a good way to promote and to show the beauty of the Chinese culture.
In the design, I choose blue as the main color which is a blending of Chinese and Western culture. As many of us will identify China as red, therefore, I would like to present a fashion blue color can be also applied on the elements of the Forbidden City. As well as matching with the golden wall. Other than that, I utilized Italian 3D printing technology to create and conceive the concept with a Chinese knot that is simple, yet modern.
Launching the product in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing, London, New York Fashion Week in 2019. It received highly recommendation by different media e.g. TV, Magazine etc. It was also chosen by the Chinese government to exhibit in one of the yearly biggest cultural events 「文博會」.
In conclusion, this product can successfully achieve the purpose for the product which is blending the Chinese and Western culture. This is a good start and I believe that this blending idea can inspire designers to create more special pieces in the future.
CHALLENGE: During the product development, there are lots of challenges to face on. For most fashion jewellery products, most of them are in gold, silver and rose gold. To achieve the ideas of blending Chinese and Western culture, I applied fashion blue color on the earrings. It is a difficult part as I never apply a special color directly on the product instead of using different color stone. After studying the process of 3D printing for a few months, I successfully applied the exact color on the earrings.
Moreover, as the products are new not only to the retail customers but also to the buyers. We need to spend extra time explaining the ideas behind the products and also the process for the production. Some of the customers are curious if the blue color will be off after certain of time, what kind of materials are the blue color made of etc. We need to educate them by preparing different videos and special leaflets as well.
