DESIGN NAME: Cloud Flows
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence
INSPIRATION: In face of the beauty of nature-wondrous mountains and rivers of this environment, the designer removed the partition wall and connected the windows on both sides to form a massive window, letting the outdoor scenery in to be incorporated into the house, especially in the public area. The natural flowing texture of the black granite of the TV wall echoes the scenery outdoors, giving people inside a comfort as if they were in nature.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The removal of the partition wall merges the two spaces into one and integrates the massive windows, allowing large amounts of light to flow into the house to enjoy the expansive scenery outdoors. The meandering black granite surface gives people a sense of flow and echoes the scenery outside the window so that the distant mountain landscape seems to be included in the space. After thinking about the design layer by layer, the two ends of the space were planned to be the private areas, and the center public. Every time one passes through a space or turn around a corner, beautiful sceneries are there to behold.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: In order to make the living space look more completed, the designer inserted the air conditioning system in to the hidden beam in the ceiling, reducing the negative overall visual effect that the beams and columns brought. Tearing down the partition wall unites the space and expands the visual and spatial perception. The designer applied black and white grained stone to create the entire wall surface, forming a strong contrast and increasing the proportion of the space, turning the wall into the highlight of the space.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was finished in June, 2019 in Taipei City, Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design consists of elements such as lines and geometry. In order to give the space a center of gravity and a rich ambiance, the entire wall is made out of black granite which connects the whole room, and its meandering appearance, not only gives off a sense of flow but also echoes the landscape outdoors. The supplementing of materials such as white granite, limestone bricks, gray mirrors, and iron hardware adds to the uniqueness of the space.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The structural foundation in this project was a newly-built house that was consolidated from two. Removing the partition wall unites the two spaces into one. One the one hand, this integrates the windows into a massive one that allows large amounts of light to flow into the house through them, and on the other hand, the meandering texture on the black stone slabs reflects the distant landscape. The stone is inlaid onto the iron sliding door, utilizing excellent hardware accessories to ensure that it moves smoothly. When the pieces are moved, the lines of the stone changes accordingly, each presenting a different scenery.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Removing the partition wall and merging the two spaces into one and connecting windows on the two sides to form a massive window allows a large amount of light and outdoor scenery into the house. As for the layout design, the two ends of the space were planned as private areas, and the center the public, so that when passing through each area, one will be able to see an exquisite scenery. Lines, geometry, and other elements illustrate the space, and in order to give it a center of gravity and a rich atmosphere, the designer utilized black granite to connect this focal point.
CHALLENGE: The beams and columns of the structure affected the overall visual effect of the space negatively, so the designer decided to integrate the air conditioning system into the ceiling and hid the beams, making the room look more complete. Taking down the partition wall unites the space and expands the overall visual and spatial perception. The usage of black- and white-grained stone to create the entire wall surface forms a strong contrast and increases the proportion of the space, turning it into the focus point of the space.
