DESIGN NAME: Modernizm
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ceramic Tiles Collection
INSPIRATION: The timeless collection of Modernizm has been inspired by a fascination with details rooted in the aesthetics of the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by the highest quality and durability in addition to original designs. Elements of the collection can be freely combined, creating abstract, geometric mosaics in the form of a chessboard, checkers or stripes. In addition, when designing the collection, the creators have focused on subdued colours which can be found in both utility and home interiors
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Modernizm is a combination of tradition and innovation. It is distinguished by rediscovered corset tiles, i.e. small ceramic cubes with characteristic notches and embossments. The collection catches the eye with a variety of patterns, formats and colours, offering freedom of arrangement. The products can be used on both floors and walls. They will be perfect for buildings under conservation protection, but also for tenement houses, modern restaurants, shops or home space.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The creators of the collection have refreshed the pre-war patterns and complemented them with original compositions that fit both classic and modern spaces. In order to ensure the greatest possible freedom of arrangement, the collection has been supplemented with hexagonal and square tiles in various sizes.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The collection of Modernizm has been available for sale from October 2019. Its release took place during the largest international interior design fair in Central and Eastern Europe - Warsaw Home

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Corsets were very popular in pre-war Poland. Despite enormous damage during World War II, unique fragments of compositions with these products in the main role have been preserved in some old buildings throughout Poland. During the project, the spaces in which the mosaics have survived were thoroughly examined and documented. On this basis, collection with modern designs and colors has been created to reflect the nature of corsets mosaic from the past, and at the same time to be affordable, durable and aesthetic.
CHALLENGE: The resulting products accurately reflect not only the shape and charm of a single corset tile but with the application of modern technologies, they additionally increase its durability and practicality. The biggest challenge was to choose the right natural raw materials and developing new patterns mosaic, that reflect traditional design from previous century. However, in order to adapt all collection tiles to the requirements of contemporary interior designers, the Modernizm collection has been extended with additional tile formats 19.8 x 19.8 cm and 59.8 x 59.8 cm, hexagons 19.8 x 17.1 cm, or mosaics 29.8 x 29.8 cm.
