| DESIGN NAME: Aurora PRIMARY FUNCTION: Laptop Desk INSPIRATION: My love asked for a laptop desk and that's how I started. Inspired by curved wooden furniture and the amazing Porsche 918 exhaust pipe's design, I come up with the primary design which evolved into Aurora. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Aurora laptop desk is a unique curved design element with it's detailed notch shape. Using quality light material resulted in a light and comfortable product. The two sided smart notch brings about an easy charging process regardless of the outlet's location. It also protects the charging cable against any potential damage due to excessive bending. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Aurora's light weight allows you to lift it easily and place it on your lap. Grab your charger and fit in the smart notch before plugging it into the laptop. Aurora is long enough for multi device or combination use. Aurora ergonomics feature prevents you to bend your back over a book or laptop and lets you be able to read, work and enjoy your time. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Aurora was made of 1/4 '' bending boards glued and bent together. The smart notch is made of solid walnut placed in the bending board. It also has solid walnut edging all around. Finally, it is covered with ''A grade'' walnut veneer and stained with clear toner finish. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions (L,W,H) :762mm x 304mm x 241mm Corners return radius (R): 76mm Board thickness : 19mm The cylinder notch has a 45 degree angle with the board surface both on the top and sides, they are aligned two by two on each side of the desk. The cylinders are 28mm in diameter. TAGS: Aurora, laptopdesk, desk, curved, smartnotch, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The main focus of the project was the smart notch. The goal was to make it both functional and aesthetically pleasing. After reviewing different mechanical features on different products such as air hose supporting spring ends or some electrical wires protecting systems I came up with the idea of the smart notch hold and protect feature. Size variation makes it less probable for the charging cable to jump out, so it would be held safe and avoid it to be bend and damaged over the time. Examined dimension gave a great stability on sofa yet it let Aurora to be long enough for multi device use friendly and comfortable . CHALLENGE: The main challenge was to have a cohesive walnut look all over the product, especially inside the smart notch. Cutting the veneer at the notch areas required a very precise hand skill. In order to bend the bending boards at the curve area, two complimentary templets were made so the bending boards would be locked up glued in between.
