DESIGN NAME: Millo One
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Blender
INSPIRATION: The idea for millo came when Ruslanas, a dedicated runner, grew annoyed that his blender would wake his family when he made a smoothie after his morning run. He was determined to create a convenient, easy to clean and silent alternative to the traditional blender. The inspiration for the engineering inside millo came from a surprising source - his daughter. Seeing her play with a toy where two dancing figures were rotated by magnets gave him the idea for millo's patented Magnetic Air Drive.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Millo patented Magnetic Air Drive, which allows for contactless transfer of torque from the base to the blades, makes it the quietest blender on the market. Quietness is only the beginning. Its minimalist design utilises BPA-free Tritan Plastic and anodised aluminum for maximum aesthetic impact, while the lightweight materials and separable cup and base mean that millo is fully portable. Not only that, it is fully rechargeable and can be controlled from an intuitive touch controlled base.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Millo is not just a reimagining of the traditional blender, it is a foodtech gadget designed to help people integrate better nutrition into their busy lifestyles. Its Magnetic Air Drive applies engineering from drone technology for ultra-quiet blending, while its intuitive touch sensitive base and app make it easy and enjoyable to use. Millo is a cordless device with a portable cup for blending anytime, anywhere. With few moving parts and a simple design, Millo is exceptionally easy to clean.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was launched in Lithuania in 2016, and the final product is still under development. The first run of blenders are expected to come off the company's locally-based production line in the first half of 2020.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: millo's sleek minimalist design is inspired by the natural forms that characterize Scandinavian design. It combines the circle, the form of security and integrity, with the closed ring, which embodies energy, completeness and balance. This emphasis on timeless form is reflected in the materials used, which have been chosen for their sustainability: anodised aluminum and BPA-free Tritan plastic.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The Millo blender is composed of three elements: its base has dimensions of 175mm x 175mm x 60mm, while its cup has dimensions of 185 x 100 mm, and its blending lid has dimensions of 100 x 55mm. The package has dimensions of 228 x 228 x 223 mm.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research into Millo's design focused on exploring modern aesthetic directions. The inspiration for both the colour palette and the form came from an exploration of various premium products and minimalist interiors. Functionality was naturally of key importance - pain points and areas for improvement were identified by testing numerous existing blenders. The greatest design challenge was maintaining a minimalist look while incorporating the complex electronics and mechanisms inside Millo's base.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to overcome existing perceptions of what a blender is. The basic design of the blender has not changed since 1922. These devices are typically chunky, aesthetically unappealing, noisy and difficult to clean. We set out to completely reimagine the blender. That's why everything from the motor, to the design, to the materials has been engineered to make millo something that is both a pleasure to use and an aesthetically pleasing item you would be proud to display.
