Chinese Restaurant
INSPIRATION:
The Convergence of Chinese Cultural and Artistic Elements result in a harmonious dining Oriental ambiance Restaurant
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Chinese culture can be traced back to thousands of years ago and is one of the oldest cultures in the world. In order to maintain this unique ancient identity, the designer specially looked for a lot of ancient materials used in the restaurant to retain the unique Oriental artistic value. Each guest can immerse themselves in a truly traditional art decor atmosphere.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
In this restaurant, there are five VIP rooms that are designed for private family dining. There are three linked VIP rooms and two individual separate VIP rooms on the left and right sides of the restaurant respectively. The three linked VIP rooms can become a private function room when the screen door is opened and the rooms are connected. At least 40 people can fit into this private space.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project finished in September 2017 in Penang,Malaysia.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The designer tries to build a Suzhou style dry landscape yard. It's quietly integrated into the oriental interior, besides, they brought new vitality to the waste materials by reuse and classification. The designer applied the spirit of China on all of the space, such as the custom made cloud lanterns,cement wall render , solid wood, and the art of calligraphy, all of these particular about quality. The application of old stone and dead wood are to bring out the culture of Chinese Style.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The five VIP rooms are named with five important plants from ancient Chinese culture, which are Pine, Plum, Orchid, Bamboo,and Chrysanthemum.The reason the names of these plants were selected is because of the concept of four gentlemen that represent elegance, favor, and traditional Chinese cultural personality. Pines one of the uniquely selected plants that has another meaning. It remains green all year round, even in winter. Therefore, pine has the meaning of longevity, perseverance, and unyielding.
CHALLENGE:
In a hotel restaurant, everything works like a clockwork, requiring everyone on the team work closely with each other from the designers to operators.
The cloud chandelier on the ceiling is designed by the designer and developed by the manufacturer.

I am in awe of the creativity and brilliance of Ben Ran's interior design. It is a perfect blend of modern, classic and traditional Chinese design elements that truly celebrates the culture and heritage of Chinese restaurants. I am absolutely mesmerized by the award-winning design "Ben Ran" by Fuka Interior Decoration Sdn Bhd.
