DESIGN NAME: Sabre Travel Network Malaysia
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Corporate Office
INSPIRATION: The inspiration for the office came from the Sabre brand itself, a complex interplay of geometric kites in an Escherian layout that perfectly illustrates the seamless connections and interconnections the intricate technology provides to the airline, travel and hospitality industry.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The corner office space in the award-winning Ilham Tower is angular with distinctive features which our team serendipitously looked to Sabre brand philosophy as inspiration. Wide triangulated leaning glass panels with diagonal Brise-Soleil structures outside gave off the perfect impression of an airport control tower which was matched a standing counter much like an airport bar. As space was unconventional, the office is matched and secreted tidily like a play of geometric shapes coming together like the physical representation of the technology it is.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The entrance to office leads to a gallery with the city urbanscape in the background. The open space is created for better efficiency where the staff and client can interact without infringing into the private working area. It can be transformed into a multifunctional event space for corporate functions by opening the frameless glass wall panels of the adjoining conference room. There is a private nook for tea-breaks which allow natural sunlight illumination, creating depth and layer to the overall ambience while enjoying the urban view of the street below.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in early November 2019 and completed in early December 2019. The duration taken was 4 weeks. The project site is located in Menara Ilham, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Sabre Malaysia office is situated in an award-winning smart building designed by Lord Norman Foster, which has a triangular geometric framework finished with tapered glass curtain wall. Extensive research was carried out to understand the Sabre brand icon called Edgeweb, a geometric image, which subsequently became the foundation of the office design concept.
CHALLENGE: Designing for Sabre Malaysia office was faced with a challenge of space planning due to the angular floor space and tapered glass curtain wall where nothing is in a straight line. The existing ceiling slabs are metal which does not permit any sort of ceiling mounting. As the building is a smart building, designed to be environmentally friendly with sustainability long term goals, strict building rules and restrictions had to be adhered to, despite having a very short timeline for the handover of the project.
