DESIGN NAME: Pin Something To Savor
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Brand Identity and Packaging Design
INSPIRATION: PIN is a creative cookies brand pioneering unique Asian flavours of red dates and ginseng raisin, to savoury bites of scallion chicken and chilli shrimp. The word 'PIN', in Chinese is written as ‘品’, which means ‘to savour’. Interestingly, the character looks like three stacked cubes, much like building blocks that are central to the curious, playful quality of the brand. Here we designed the English name ‘PIN’ into the Chinese name ‘品’ to create a logo that merges linguistic boundaries to read simultaneously in both languages.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In the series of eight unique cookie flavours, the packaging designs further extends the building blocks concept, in which ingredients are whimsically illustrated to take center stage, bursting in colour and vibrancy. In-store, the box packaging are displayed in groups of three cubes, always two at the bottom and one at the top, resembling the brand name ‘品’. The duo giftbox takes form in the same stacked structure, similar to a traditional Asian lunchbox, revealing the embossed, knitted pattern at the side of the boxes, weaving together the brand name ‘品’ in a bamboo style, celebrating a historical tradition of Asian culture.

The designs are mounted on cardboard to form a sturdy cubical box, with a drawer that slides open.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research on illustration styles was carried out prior to as we wanted the designs to be a good balance between whimsical abstract and legible, so that consumers can identify its contents.
CHALLENGE: The challenge of this project lies in the execution of the print - how to achieve the brightness and saturation so that it conveys the exciting, flavourful content. After trying numerous paper qualities and experimented with different printing possibilities, the end result is to use gloss lamination to best bring out the luminosity of the ink.
