Interview with Megalith Architects at Monday 4th of May 2020 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? MA: The main principle behind the design project is "coziness," which the designer tried to indicate by integrating elements of forms, lights, colors, and texture. The interior design is inspired by the cozy vibe and slow-paced lifestyle of Tainan City itself. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? MA: The main focus of this work is to provide a sense of comfort when the users enter the interior space. In order to achieve this goal, the design team focuses on every detail and considers every element repeatedly and thoroughly. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? MA: The future plans would be to use this winning opportunity as motivation and come up with other better designs, sharing the best living experience with those who share the same living philosophy as us. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? MA: It depends on the project, and in this case, it takes almost a month to come up with the best solution to the interior design. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? MA: Designing a place for people to live in everyday is the most interesting type of work in this field in our opinion. Since it is the place we come home to everyday, it is otherwise important that we consider every living habits and scenarios of the users. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? MA: The target customer would be a family who loves to spend quality time together in their home and love the slow-vibe of Tainan City. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? MA: The name of the design is basically the main idea of this work. The materials, methodology, and expressions in this design all focus on providing a cozy vibe of the space. Without this primary concept, this design would not have even existed. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? MA: The data and analytical research were not implied in this project; however, we definitely would like to explore different possibilities in the future. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? MA: It is always the construction process that needs most of our attention. One time, on the second-floor construction, he blacksmith we worked with did not complete the shelves to the best quality, and eventually, the shelves had to be rebuilt from scratch to meet with our high construction quality standard. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? MA: We are a local design company based in Tainan, Taiwan, and we would like to share and promote the beautiful city by gaining more international attention. We think by joining an international design competition could assist us to achieve this goal.
