Interview with Contital at Tuesday 12th of May 2020 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? CS: The product has been conceived to satisfy the need of disposable plates since the widespread traditional plastic plates (neither recyclable nor biodegradable-compostable) are going to be dismissed due to the EU Directive 2019/904 on the reduction of the impact of certain plastic products on the environment. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? CS: Aluminium plates are manufactured with a particular design that: minimizes transport space, optimizes product display on stores shelves, enhances the lightness of the product. The product has been developed with specific technical characteristics to ensure strength despite the low thickness and to withstand the stress of transportation, sealing and storage. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? CS: One year FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? CS: The product range can be one of the solutions for wholesalers and catering chains searching for a viable eco-friendly alternative FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? CS: Both solutions FS: Who is the target customer for his design? CS: This sustainable solution has been conceived for catering industry, Mass Market Retailers and final consumers. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? CS: The material used to manufacture the plate: recycled aluminium FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? CS: To realize a plate that can be used for the contact with all kinds of food, including acid and salty ones.
