Interview with 7654321 Studio at Monday 4th of May 2020

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
7S: The Chinese calligraphy in the work is based on the textual meaning and structure of the "Tea Competition", and it is domineeringly written, making it rich in rivers and lakes, like words and paintings, and rich in details. Combining elegant and heavy feelings to achieve its thick and chic strokes. In the design, the tension of calligraphy embodies "Yi Zhan Cheng Ming , Yan Ao Jiang Hu".

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
7S: Looking for design elements and techniques that match the temperament of the "Tea Competition", at last, calligraphy, which is unique to China as the "Tea Competition" event, was selected. Then, in many calligraphy, we looked for a font that looks like words and paintings and has tension.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
7S: No plan

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
7S: One month

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
7S: I decide to pursuit an inspiration.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
7S: My design being produced and used by another company.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
7S: It is excellent customer demand, so I have room to play.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
7S: Design in all fields.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
7S: High-end people who are interested in tea.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
7S: The degree of fit between calligraphy and product and packaging.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
7S: The 2018 "Zhuzi Cup" Wuyi Mountain Folk Tea Competition Gold Award Tea.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
7S: Ai

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
7S: The use of calligraphy.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
7S: My team and I like to study packaging box design and material technology everyday, and combine our design with suitable box shape and material technology to show what the product should look like and temperament.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
7S: Tools

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
7S: Learn about the origin of the "Tea Competition". Tracing the history of "Tea Competition”, it has a strong color of victory and defeat, is a form of tea evaluation and social activities. In ancient times, it was an open outcry, but now it is an anonymous review, regardless of human feelings, so it is more fair and peaceful.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
7S: The text and materials and the way the box is opened are perfectly and cleverly combined. All elements work together.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
7S: On the one hand is self-confidence in the work, on the other hand is to spread traditional Chinese culture.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
7S: Communication with packaging production plants is more professional.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
7S: No

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
