Interview with Shih-Wei Cheng at Sunday 19th of May 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? SC: The main principle behind my design is to make finding travel companions easier. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? SC: The main focuses in this work was to create seamless user experience with great UI designs. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? SC: My plan for entering this competition was to motivate myself to work harder outside of my everyday work. By winning this award, it motivates me to work even harder. I will continue to join competitions like this. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? SC: The duration of this process took me about 2.5 months from start to finish. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? SC: I have always been a fan of traveling and exploring so creating this application was a way for me to pursuit my passion. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? SC: I have no intent to sell my design now. The intent was to produce work myself and only for portfolio purpose. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? SC: The target customers are people who love traveling and have traveled solo in his/her life. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? SC: Many travel apps out there are very photo-centric or dating focused, whereas my project focuses on the individual interests. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? SC: Wonder as in "wondering around the world." FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? SC: I used Adobe creative suite and sketch to finish the project. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? SC: The real time location for finding travel companions and the identity verification process are what my project apart from other mobile apps. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? SC: I interviewed potential users personally to collect pain points and data. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? SC: The challenges were to find people who have travelled solo before and ask the right questions to find out pain points. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? SC: I learned that designers should always deliver the best design in a package. That means from research, design, finish, and the post production mockups. We should always strive for perfection, although there is no such thing as perfect in design.
